Why Our Brand
Our Story
When he was running veterinary hospitals, Dr. Rod Munsell quickly noticed how the rising prices of running a brick-and-mortar clinic affected clients. Seeing a need for more accessible preventative healthcare for dogs and cats, he founded Low Cost Pet Vax in 2016. Low Cost Pet Vax is a mobile vaccination clinic dedicated to providing friendly service, for affordable prices, at convenient locations.
The Journey From Traditional Clinics to Mobile Vaccinations
After starting his second successful veterinary hospital, Dr Munsell found himself in a dilemma. While he was experiencing success and enjoyed working with pets, he simply wanted more freedom in his schedule and practice. He was also tired of handling difficult clients in such a high-stress environment and dealing with all the logistics of running a brick-and-mortar practice.
So, he decided to sell his veterinary practice and began working in real estate investing while providing pet care through relief and fill-in shifts in the area. He helped dogs and cats in need at animal shelters and also discovered the benefits of a new type of veterinary practice—mobile vaccination clinics.
With lower prices and more convenience for pet owners, Dr. Munsell saw a huge opportunity in Dallas-Fort Worth for providing affordable preventive pet healthcare to underserved communities. Having lived in South Texas in primarily Hispanic communities, he noticed that there was a large community of pet owners, but veterinary providers rarely had anyone fluent in Spanish on their teams. To provide more accessible pet healthcare to his community, Dr. Munsell set out to start Low Cost Pet Vax, a mobile practice of his own with plenty of bilingual staff.
How Low Cost Pet Vax Has Grown
Starting Low Cost Pet Vax in 2016 took a lot of patience and hard work. After repeated trial and error, Dr. Munsell developed a successful strategy. He would find locations that were convenient for both pet owners and care providers, form meaningful relationships with local businesses, and build friendly, motivated, bilingual teams that provided excellent service to clients and their pets. With this strategy, it didn’t take long for Low Cost Pet Vax to become the leading provider of preventive pet healthcare to the Hispanic demographic in every area that we serviced.
Providing More Than Just Vaccinations: The Importance of Client Education
As Low Cost Pet Vax grew, the importance of client education became obvious to Dr. Munsell and his staff. Many clients who first came to the mobile clinic only knew about the importance of preventing rabies. But once they understood the importance of the care their pets were receiving, they became interested in learning about and providing additional preventative care for their pets.
Heartworm prevention became one of the primary focuses of client education, as 1 in 4 pets tested at Low Cost Pet Vax clinics were positive for the deadly parasite. Through more affordable preventative care and thorough client education, our mobile vaccination clinics can help prolong the lives of local cats and dogs.
